From Microsoft Word · WriteIDE 0.6
Bring a Word manuscript into a local WriteIDE project.
WriteIDE 0.6 can import a .docx copy and detect chapters and scenes. You can keep drafting in Word and use WriteIDE as the tracker, or continue writing in the desktop editor. The original Word file is not linked, and nothing is uploaded.

What WriteIDE does with that manuscript.

- Import a .docx copy
Choose Import Manuscript, or Track a story written elsewhere. WriteIDE reads Word documents, plus TXT and Markdown, and lets you review the chapter and scene split before it commits.
0.6 - Keep Word as the editor
Tracker-only projects land on Story Overview. Record loot, levels, class changes, skills, and quests at the right scene while the prose stays in Word.
0.6 - Export a new Word file later
Desktop export can write a formatted DOCX for editors. That file is a new copy, not a live save back into the document you imported.
0.6 - Stay local-first
The imported project lives in the WriteIDE folder on your computer. No account is required, and the manuscript is not sent to a WriteIDE server.

What this path does not do.
- Live write-back to the original Word file
Linked Office round-trip is not part of 0.6. Importing does not keep the source .docx in sync as you edit.
Not in 0.6 - Cloud backup or a browser app
Those are planned and optional. They are not how a Word file enters WriteIDE today.
Not in 0.6 - A headingless document becoming a full spine
If the file has almost no chapter headings, 0.6 offers a chapter skeleton instead of guessing a book structure.

How to do it on this computer.
- 01 · Download WriteIDE 0.6
macOS, Windows, and Linux builds are free. Open the app on your computer.
01 - 02 · Choose the path that matches how you draft
Import Manuscript if you want the prose in WriteIDE. Track a story written elsewhere if Word stays the writing surface.
02 - 03 · Select the .docx and review the split
Confirm chapter titles and scene breaks. Adjust anything the detector got wrong before the project is created.
03 - 04 · Record story changes at the scene they happen
From Story Overview, attach stats, items, skills, and quests to the right point in the book.
