Accurate for WriteIDE 0.6 · August 2026
Move the manuscript you already have.
WriteIDE 0.6 can import a TXT, Word, or Markdown copy, or sit beside the editor you already use as a tracker-only ledger. It does not open Google Docs in place, it does not read .scriv projects, and it does not write back into a live Office file.
Choose the source
Word, Google Docs, or Scrivener.
Each page states the current capability: what import does, what tracker-only is for, and what 0.6 still does not do.
WriteIDE 0.6 can import a .docx copy and detect chapters and scenes. You can keep drafting in Word and use WriteIDE as the tracker, or continue writing in the desktop editor. The original Word file is not linked, and nothing is uploaded.
02 · Google DocsWriteIDE does not connect to a Google account and does not open Docs in place. In 0.6 you download a .docx or Markdown copy, import that file into a local project, and optionally keep drafting in Docs while WriteIDE tracks continuity.
03 · ScrivenerWriteIDE is not a Scrivener clone and it does not open .scriv files. In 0.6 the honest paths are compile-then-import, or keep drafting in Scrivener and use WriteIDE as the point-in-time tracker for stats, items, skills, and quests.
Public 0.6, not README-era 0.4.9
What is current, and what is not.
The public desktop release is WriteIDE 0.6. Import, tracker-only, Story Overview, and local-first authoring are shipped. Older 0.4.9 notes on this site are history, not the current product.
