Royal Road Scene Break Generator

A gallery of scene breaks and chapter dividers for a Royal Road chapter. Click one to copy its BBCode, then paste it where the scene changes. The safe set at the top uses only plain characters and the built-in rule, so it renders on every device.

Safe set

renders everywhere

These use only plain characters and Royal Road's own rule, so they render on every device and reading app. Reach for one of these when you want a break that never breaks.

Symbol dividers

may vary by device

Single glyphs and small ornaments. They read well in most fonts, but an older device or a stripped reading app can fall back to an empty box, so test one before you rely on it.

A centered, bold title with a rule under it. Type your chapter title and the snippet updates.

A blank title falls back to Chapter One.

Where to paste it

  1. Open your chapter in the Royal Road editor.
  2. Put the cursor on the line where the scene changes, or above the chapter body for a header.
  3. Paste the copied snippet. The centered ornament or rule appears in place.

Which dividers always render

A scene break is only useful if every reader sees it. The safe set uses plain keyboard characters and Royal Road's built-in rule, so it holds up on the website, in the app, and on an e-reader. Start there if you want one break to use through a whole book.

The symbol dividers use characters like the diamond, the snowflake, and the fleuron. Most modern fonts include them, but some devices show an empty box instead, so they carry a note. Copy one, preview a chapter on your phone and on the Royal Road app, and keep it only if it draws cleanly.
