XP Curve Visualizer

Pick a leveling curve or write your own formula, then read the level-versus-XP graph and a full table of XP per level and total XP. See how grindy your progression feels before you commit it to a chapter. Everything runs in your browser.

XP scales with the square of the level. Early levels fly by and later ones stretch out. This is the classic progression-fantasy grind.

xp = level^2 * 100

Reading the curve before you write the grind

A leveling curve is a promise to the reader about pace. A linear curve keeps every level the same weight, so the hundredth level reads like the first. An exponential curve front-loads the wins and back-loads the wall, which is why so much progression fantasy uses it. The point of this page is to see that shape as a line and a table before you commit a number to a chapter, so a level-30 wall is a choice and not an accident.

New to curve design? Read Designing linear versus exponential growth, our post on how the two shapes feel to a reader over a whole book.

Every value here is computed in your browser

The four preset curves are the same equations WriteIDE uses to track a character's level and XP at every scene of a book, ported out so the tool needs no account and no network. The custom field runs the app's real formula engine, so a curve you prove here reads the same way inside the app. Copy the table straight into a spreadsheet, or download the chart to share. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

WriteIDE does this for your whole book, automatically

This tool handles one at a time. WriteIDE is the desktop studio that tracks LitRPG stats, items, skills, and quests across a whole novel, and keeps them correct at every scene.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, and it keeps working with your network off.
